Michael is one of our resident gear aficionados with a passion (some may call it an obsession) for ski gear and clothing that runs deep. He is the founder of Katarat Canada, a niche skiwear company established in 1976 that is designed and manufactured in Montreal. The clothing reached great success when members of the Crazy Canucks were brand ambassadors and wore Katarat shells on the podium in Kitzbuhl! Katarat is excited to relaunch the brand in 2021/2022.
Michael recalls his first skiing experience at the age of 7 at Beaver Lake in Montreal, where he was thrown on skis and basically just stood there. He credits his Pops for the harrowing experience that lead him to racing in the Laurentian Zone as a member of the Mt. Habitant and Ski Hawk ski teams. Michael went on to becoming a CSIA certified instructor with the Ski Jays in St. Sauver forever and then onto Mt. Tremblant under the supervision of master Conrad Guay.
Michael is proud to still rock his Yamaha R-700 U.S. Ski Team Issue poles from 1977! He decided to finally retire his Salomon SX91 Rear Entry boots and Olin 208cm Mark V11 GS rocket rail monsters in 2010. He traded his old setup for Nordica Fire Arrow 80mm skis and complements them with his Nordica Enforcer Ski Boots.
Michael's quiver still proudly houses a set of Dynastar Speed WC GS skis, 103.65.85 with a radius of 25M for those hard pack days and affectionately refers to them as his "rocket skis".
